C1 Inhibitor Knockout Mice
Plasma protease C1 inhibitor, also known as C1 esterase inhibitor, C1-inhibiting factor, C1-INH, and C1IN, is a product of the Serping1 gene. It is a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) that is involved in the regulation of the contact and complement systems. Heterozygous defect or deficiency of this protein is responsible for hereditary angioedema (HAE). C1 inhibitor may also prove to be an ideal therapeutic target for investigating additional diseases such as hemorrhagic shock, septic shock, transplant rejection, reperfusion injury, and other inflammatory disorders.
Molecular Innovations has developed a new C1-INH knockout mouse strain in pure C57BL/6 background. Homozygous mice completely lacking C1 inhibitor protein expression are available, as well as heterozygous mice to model human HAE.
